Hello parents and students!
I am going to the doctor today so I will let you know what he says. Ms. Tacora should be taking over today and you will have Mr. Jason as your interim para. Please welcome them and show them all the respect you normally show. All the lesson plans for my leave have been done so Ms. Tacora knows exactly what you are doing. Besides, you just wrote your math goals down for the next few months. Please continue to work as hard as you have been. You have only a couple of months left before FCAT.
Parents, we have been having some issues with homework. Students do have math homework due every Friday as well as spelling. Fifth graders have science FCAT due every Tuesday morning. 5th graders especially have not been keeping up with science. I don't want to lose momentum now, because we have learned so much in science this year and it is really improving their understanding on science FCAT. The same thing for math...some students are not doing their math HW and it is going to directly affect how well they perform on FCAT. I have been reviewing the HW and FCAT questions in class, but there is an obvious difference in understanding between those who do their HW and those who do not. Please, parents, help me make sure HW is being done every week.
There are some important dates coming up. We put them in planners for all of December too.
Field trips: Dec 2nd (Tues) to Mandarin Museum. Slip was attached to planner. Need a bagged lunch. $12, wear pants and comfy shoes, no flip flops. Chaperones welcome but costs $8
Dec 5th (Fri) 5th graders go to Marine Science Center. Need a bagged lunch an decorated milk jug to collect shells. Will be on the beach so dress accordingly. Might want to wear roll up pants. No bathing suits. Free. I don't think chaperones can go because you have to have a class before you go.
Dec 3rd: Food assignment due (ask your child). Remember, there are 2 other parts to finish after this part...
Dec 11th: Parent ed night for reading. This is going to be a fabulous workshop covering impt reading info for you. 6:30-8 with question time. Accelerated reader will be discussed as well as reading levels, goals, and how to help at home. You will be given take home materials also. Homework passes will be given to each student who has a parent attend. Please try to attend.
Dec 19th: Last day before the break. Parents are invited to spend the day with us. It will be an exciting day. At 9 AM, a teacher from Kirby Smith Middle school is coming to talk about middle school to our students. Our past students that attend Kirby will be coming to answer questions. This teacher is discussing Kirby's program as well as what middle school is like for kids. It is never to early to think about narrowing down your choices parents! On the same day, it is also our food tasting party for the nutrition experience and our holiday celebration. If someone would like to be in charge of a holiday craft to do that day with the class, it would be great. Usually, the simpler it is, the more fun the kids have with it! I am going to try my best to attend this day so I can see everyone and wish you happy holidays.
Miss you guys already! Love Ms. Fitz
